For those of you that don’t already know about it Race Online 2012 is a landmark challenge I have set up under my UK Digital Champion role, calling UK organisations across all sectors to sign up as an official partners. Each partner states what they will do to help the 10m adults in the UK who have never used the internet, with a particular focus on the 4m people who are also socially excluded.
The programme started shortly before Easter 2010 with keynote pledges from nine major commercial organisations: BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Moneysupermarket.com, Google, Microsoft, Comet, McDonalds and Skype. Together they pledged to help 600,000 people get online via their efforts. Just ten weeks later, we have some exciting news, we have now secured over 250 partners who have made pledges that will mean 1 million more people will get online. Our challenge is to make sure these pledges get delivered upon. I’d like to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to all the partners big and small and to my extraordinarily dedicated and small team.
